Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Program
The EMS Program at Blinn College equips students with the technical skills and knowledge essential for success in Emergency Medical Services careers. Our program focuses on practical, real-world training used in pre-hospital care and emergency centers.
Students gain expertise in:
- Patient assessment
- Oxygen therapy
- Medication administration
- Shock management
- Bandaging and splinting
- Cardiac and medical emergency management
- Childbirth and pediatric emergencies
- Scene management
The EMS Program is accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions, as recognized by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

Credit for Prior Learning
Blinn College offers college credit for experiential learning, allowing students to build on their existing certifications and experience.
Eligibility for 6 Hours of Credit
Students may receive 6 hours of college credit for coursework completed through a non-college-based program by providing:
- Current certification from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT), and/or
- Current certification as an EMT from the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS).
Credits awarded:
- EMSP 1501
- EMSP 1160
Note: Certification as an EMT requires successful completion of a state-approved EMT course or a higher-level certification (e.g., EMT-Paramedic).
Experiential learning is awarded by completing the required paperwork and paying the $1 fee per contact hour associated with EMSP 1501 and EMSP 1160. Additional information can be found at https://www.blinn.edu/emergency-medical-services/experiential-learning-information.html
Eligibility for Up to 34 Hours of Credit
Experienced EMT-Paramedics may earn up to 34 hours of college credit for advanced experiential learning. Eligibility requires:
- Current NREMT or Texas DSHS paramedic certification
- 5 years’ experience as a paramedic
- Pass the program’s paramedic summative exam
Credits awarded include:
EMSP 1338, EMSP 1356, EMSP 1355, EMSP 2306, EMSP 2260, EMSP 2444, EMSP 2434, EMSP 2330, EMSP 2261, EMSP 2305, EMSP 2143, and EMSP 2362.
